The Rolling Stone article on the surveillance technology being deployed in China is one of the most chilling to be published in many years. The most memorable phrase linking a police state to “the crack cocaine of capitalism” , and the fact that the technology is being supplied to China, in the main, by US companies such as IBM and General Electric should give us all a moment of pause.
If the economic success of China’s Shenzen province become the model for capitalism, how long before someone makes the decision for the US to catch up ?
