      Will Half Be Enough ?

The FCC Decision that was announced regarding the 700 Mhz auction rules turned out to be about half of what progressive advocates of net neutrality were looking for.

Even though the full set of ideal conditions did not materialize, you can only hope that there is enough open space to allow the innovation to occur. One look at the unregulated 2.4 Ghz band and there’s hope that similar benefits will come out of whatever portion of the 700 Mhz band will eventually be available under today’s ruling.

The big hope ? That whatever today’s ruling produces in small scale at 700Mhz exerts such a level of pressure on the current wireless cellphone business model that the objectives of the reformers will be acheived on large scale. Sort of like using 700 Mhz to prime the pump, raising water to a level that must flow downhill.
