Conferenced Day 1 — and Glogging

    by Andrew McCaskey

    world’s most powerful consumer laser.

Some quick intro notes on the Podcast Portable Media Expo. Today’s keynote will be delivered by Leo Laporte, of TWIT – and will set the stage for some thoughts on how the world of podcasting will evolve. The organizers have done a really good balancing act between business, citizen media technical and just plain interesting stuff that captures some of the excitement.

Leo had a great speech citing some of the discussion on the use of the term Podcast, and celebrates the freedom and creativity of Podcasting.

The day moved quickly into a literal three ring circus – make that four rings – the official conference, the Podango “Unconference” on the show floor, the trade show floor, and the hallway conversations. No make that five, as there was a separate demo area set up as well, just off the show floor.

The marked difference between this conference and scores of other tradeshows ? They committed to having the entire series of Conference lectures posted for download within the week. The “unconference ” will have most of today’s lectures posted tonight, and promise close to realtime posting of the Unconference Sessions.

I hope that you will be able to listen in, and gain a sense of the excitement in the Podcast and Portable Media world. There are about 4300 people here, and the impact of this conference will be multiplied many times over.

You know that I have an almost fatal attraction to new and novel – and I am directing some attention to something that might be a little bit of fun for the next few days – quasi realtime photos from the Portable Media Show. I had never heard of the term “Glogging”

A few test images from the show seemed to work ok right from the hotel -from the Motorola Razr phone – then I got ambitious with a seven second video and something broke. I abandoned that account, and started over again – and some of the results will appear in tonights show notes.

Glogging is A CyborgLog (often abbreviated to ‘glog) is a first-person recording of an activity, in which the person doing the recording is a participant in the activity.
It an be fed with cameraphones – you just take the photo, send it as an email attachment, and then Glogger assembles them into a storyboard and provides a realtime feed to the web site or blog posting.

Thus, the way this is supposed to work – as I take photos at the show, they will be posted in more or less realtime – ie. the photo should change as they are added throughout the day – do you might want to check back and see what’s new.
    Glogger.eyetap.org has the details.
