75 Chapter Downloads – For Somebody . .

Sometimes laziness can be a virtue – the inspiration for a better way to accomplish a task to save energy for more demanding situations. Other times, if you are like me, you take the path of least resistance, and Google the term rather than walking to the other side of the room, taking the book from the shelf and hitting the index. It’s a change in behavior that has sort of crept up to catch me unaware – and sends another boxload of books off to the library donation bin every few months.
Other times, that laziness might have unintended consequences. If you are catching up this weekend, and want to just set up some afternoon downloads and then go mow the lawn, there’s a site that will fill your needs, and give you a chance to stop your Google look up backslidingIt’s called FTPOnline, subtitled “75 Free Chapter Downloads“ . FTP Online is the official site for Fawcette Technical Publications, and the main site is a treasure trove of professional books and white papers on a number of IT related topics. These are the $40 to $60 type books and there are for most of them Free to Download chapters in topics such as

* ASP.NET
* Database
* Java
* .NET Development
* Web Design & Development
* Windows ITAnd some fairly juicy bits, at that: A chapter on “Hacking Windows” from the Hacking Exposed series, Half a dozen chapters from various Wrox books, the excellent “Thinking in Java” book, a chapter from Bruce Eckel.
You may think that you may be too busy to do much downloading this weekend and that the Google Search will fill your needs for the coming week ? Your choice – but you can bet that some youngster in India has already downloaded a few of those chapters.
