Vista Woes Continue
The latest entry in the long and troubled history of Microsoft Vista concerns the forced downgrade (one notch above a ‘bricking’) when the drivers that did not pass the verification test caused the deactivation sequence to begin.
It is probably not coming at a good time – almost colliding with the OSX Leopard launch this coming Friday.
The Wall Street Journal had a recent article on the problems of the automobile industry. It’s no problem to build an inexpensive auto. It’s no problem to sell them. The problem is that you can’t make any money doing so.
Even though Apple still has a market share on a units shipped basis of less than 10% – if you were to adjust the shipments for high end machines, the market share would be considerably higher.
This is exactly the sort of market segment that will be irritated – extremely so – by the sort of nonsense that Vista seems intent upon imposing.
It is one thing to brick a Vista Home installation on a $450 econobox and inconvenience some kid or grandma. It’s another thing to do the same to someone who just dropped $1200 or $1500 on a laptop. Come to think of it, the grandma or kid might not appreciate it either.
