On October 12, Slashdot Review will complete 2 years of the podcast service – with a format that is virtually unchanged since day signed on.

It’s time to shift gears in several areas..

First – Music track gone

Lots of great indy music, break for artists – lots of other podcasts, but surveys, emails and conversations indicate that if it’s a choice, most listeners want news and editiorial opinion. By design, the musics was placed at end so could skip – kept it because survey data about 2/3 either liked or were OK.
Plus, reduced bit-rate of encode – smaller files, less space, faster upload and downloads.

Second : 5 days per week. Drive time or during work week at desk – so will produce five shows per week not six.for consumption during the work week. Gotta be honest – I understand podfade – don’t want to do that but got to

Third – 10 mins or less .tried to be consistant, to provide highlights in ten mins or less and will continue.

Fourth – More concise - awareness not in depth understanding. Pointers, references – better show notes Outline, speak informally bullet points.

Fifth – More informal content - Less editing means more commentary and link to expanded resources , better notes, etc.

All of this change is going to take basically the month of October – to build out SDR News to include other primary sources, make some major web site changes and put in place

We were both comfortable with the original format.

I’ve got to learn this new way of presentation

I think it will be more fun, and that in the long run we will be able to offer a better podcast service.

The basic level is to teach it to learn to identify music, to imitate,''The higher level is stability of rhythm, to be able to distinguish between similar rhythms.

Change of Season - and Format

by Andrew McCaskey
Slashdot Review Podcast (http://Slashdotreview.com)

Been at Podcast/ Portable Media Expo in Ontario, CA - one of the most exciting and thought provoking 72 hours I've every experienced. In the past 24 hours I have integrated some of those ideas with the listener survey data over the past year

Tonights show is going to cover some of those thoughts - intermixed with news.

The I-Tech Virtual Laser Keyboard

On October 12, Slashdot Review will complete 2 years of the podcast service - with a format that is virtually unchanged since day signed on.

It's time to shift gears in several areas..

First - Music track gone

Lots of great indy music, break for artists - lots of other podcasts, but surveys, emails and conversations indicate that if it's a choice, most listeners want news and editiorial opinion. By design, the musics was placed at end so could skip - kept it because survey data about 2/3 either liked or were OK.
Plus, reduced bit-rate of encode - smaller files, less space, faster upload and downloads.

Second : 5 days per week. Drive time or during work week at desk - so will produce five shows per week not six.for consumption during the work week. Gotta be honest - I understand podfade - don't want to do that but got to

Third - 10 mins or less .tried to be consistant, to provide highlights in ten mins or less and will continue.

Fourth - More concise - awareness not in depth understanding. Pointers, references - better show notes Outline, speak informally bullet points.

Fifth - More informal content - Less editing means more commentary and link to expanded resources , better notes, etc.

All of this change is going to take basically the month of October - to build out SDR News to include other primary sources, make some major web site changes and put in place

We were both comfortable with the original format.

I've got to learn this new way of presentation

I think it will be more fun, and that in the long run we will be able to offer a better podcast service.

Leo had a great speech citing some of the discussion on the use of the term Podcast, and celebrates the freedom and creativity of Podcasting.

The day moved quickly into a literal three ring circus – make that four rings – the official conference, the Podango “Unconference” on the show floor, the trade show floor, and the hallway conversations. No make that five, as there was a separate demo area set up as well, just off the show floor.

The marked difference between this conference and scores of other tradeshows ? They committed to having the entire series of Conference lectures posted for download within the week. The “unconference ” will have most of today’s lectures posted tonight, and promise close to realtime posting of the Unconference Sessions.

Glogging is A CyborgLog (often abbreviated to ‘glog) is a first-person recording of an activity, in which the person doing the recording is a participant in the activity. It an be fed with cameraphones – you just take the photo, send it as an email attachment, and then Glogger assembles them into a storyboard and provides a realtime feed to the web site or blog posting.

Today’s video is a close up look at the Microsoft Zune player. I had not paid much attention to some of the press releases from a week or two ago, but this video lets you see the Zune go through its paces. I have not yet made the leap to the Video iPod – but there are several in the extended family and come Christmastime that might change.

It looks like there is no limit to the number of screens that we are willing to put in place in our lives – but the limiting aggravation for the business traveler seems to be finding primary power during a layover to get things recharged. At least at O’Hare, it seems like almost every easily accessible outlet on the Terminal B and C concourse has been used so many times that the two blade plugs just fall out – and the three blade are not much better. Terminal 2 seems to be a bit better – I think they must have turned on the hot spots a few months later on that concourse. Once again, the PublicVPN service provided the $6 per month peace of mind securing the WiFi link once I was able to find some power.

Arrived here at the Podcast and Portable Media Expo after a pleasant day of connecting flights.

Griddlecakes Radio host and creative talent Ron Ploof was one of the first smiling faces that I got to see at the hotel – and a chance to catch up on the . He’s restoring the lost art of radio storytelling – and made it as high as #13 on the iTunes Music store for Children and Family programming.

Today's video is a close up look at the Microsoft Zune player. I had not paid much attention to some of the press releases from a week or two ago, but this video lets you see the Zune go through its paces. I have not yet made the leap to the Video iPod - but there are several in the extended family and come Christmastime that might change.

It looks like there is no limit to the number of screens that we are willing to put in place in our lives - but the limiting aggravation for the business traveler seems to be finding primary power during a layover to get things recharged. At least at O'Hare, it seems like almost every easily accessible outlet on the Terminal B and C concourse has been used so many times that the two blade plugs just fall out - and the three blade are not much better. Terminal 2 seems to be a bit better - I think they must have turned on the hot spots a few months later on that concourse. Once again, the PublicVPN service provided the $6 per month peace of mind securing the WiFi link once I was able to find some power.

Arrived here at the Podcast and Portable Media Expo after a pleasant day of connecting flights.
