      Google Wireless and the Auction

The upcoming spectrum auction for the 700 Mhz spectrum could hold the key to a new chapter in the Wireless world in the US. And, that is exactly what the incumbent carriers fear, the idea of competition that might disturb the cozy environment of pseudo-competition that’s ru nf or the past twenty years.

The lock-in (to two year contracts) and lock-down (limiting the services that your phone can provide, regardless of the capability of the instrument ) puts these carriers into a special class of aggravation for consumers.

If Google can break this, offering a service that overcomes these two limitations, they will have a winner. It is so obvious a business plan, it hurts.
