Podcast and New Media Expo
Two and a half days of intense growth for the podcasting industry – at the third PME.
Officially now, it is the Podcast and New Media Expo, but us “old timers” still call it PME.
It is going to be very interesting to see how this evolves. Growing pains were evident this year, but the excitement was still in the air.
One of the take aways for me was the tremendous obligation that any podcaster has with respect to knowing the audience for their show.
I sometimes joke with people that one of the earliest comments about the SDR News is a recurring theme that surfaces each time I have a chance to meet face to face with listeners.
At that time the program included only Slashdot content as the Slashdot Review podcast – not Slashdot, Digg and Reddit) – and is was characterized as “Slashdot for Busy People”
I have been thinking about this in the context of value for listeners – and I think that I need to keep this in mind.
You are incredibly busy, and I think that my primary obligation is to give you highlights, awareness of an issue or story, and pointers to the original content so that if you hear something on the commute, you can quickly find it.
I am going to be talking about things this week, and hope that you will take time to send me your thoughts and comments.
