      TIme Capsule Dust-Up

      by Andrew McCaskey
Interesting to note that there are some other Apple customers like myself who are not too happy right now.

I purchased the Drobo earlier this year as an elegant storage solution – but was never able to get it working properly throug the Linksys router. It would work great when connected directly, but when it was slaved off the MiniMac in the basement, and I was attempting to use it for Leopard Time Machine for both the MiniMac and the laptop – no deal.

Finally, I got through to the Apple Tech support, who recommended that I add the Airport Extreme, hard cable in the MiniMac on ethernet, and then run it in that configuration.

At CES, the Drobo folks thought it would work – so we will see.

Apple is not the only company on my list right now.

On the Vista front, the ACER 5135 notebook (Black Friday Walmart special) is a disaster so far. About three hours in to the operation, the audio drivers disappeared – no audio devices found/recognized, etc. A download/reinstall of the drivers put it back on the air.

Now the keyboard has gone squirelly – and supposedly a BIOS reflash is in order.

Not a good experience for someone who was looking for an inexpensive laptop for my wife.

      Maybe it is just January.
