The Melodyne plug-in for high end audio workstations seems to be somewhere between $250 and $600 for the software – according to the thrity second Google search. The video today shows how the tools may be used to change the instrumental recording of a single note, embedded in a chord.
You could call it the Photoshop of audio performance. And, it reminds me of the now famous Dove Soap You-Tube video of an attractive woman without makeup shows in sixty seconds the transformation into an incredible billboard model whose image has been totally tweaked into unbelievable perfection.
A quick tour through Guitar Center or Sweetwater’s catalog indicates there is plenty of market for this sort of equipment in the audio realm. In fact, for professional podcasting work I use ProTools with various plug-ins.
An aspiring musician or performer has a high bar to reach indeed if that standard had been set.
Just like sports figures that forgo steroids, “unplugged” is still going to have the respect. But plugged is a lot of fun to listen to and create.
