Hulu’s Fate is Sealed

by Andrew McCaskey
Once Comcast completes the takeover of NBC Universal, the fate of Hulu is sealed. What had been a hope of some rationality – the ability to pick out the half dozen channels that your family values and is willing to pay for slips away once again.

There’s no reason to suspect that the Cable Company will change it’s stripes. And, with the vision of “TV Everywhere” (only if you are a fully paid Comcast/Xfinity subscriber) the content retreats behind a paywall once again. So in order to get the six channels you really want, you will have to pay the $70 or $90 a month as a “full subscriber” to get the 599 channels of “content” that you have not interest in at all.

Once again the consumer is pushed into the purchase of content he does not want, in order to get the content that is desired.

Someone could make a business of giving people what they want. And someone will. Eventually.
