Growing Channels in the Enterprise

by Andrew McCaskey
The latest AIIM Blog Posting at Digital Landfill notes that preservation of data is not as easy as it once was. Regulatory requirements or the need to lay an audit trail runs up against limitations in search technology, which is optimized for general retrieval speed, rather than completeness of the document or fileset retrieval.

The more serious issue is the multichannel nature of contacts with customers and clients. The days of regulators asking for physical files, printed correspondence and faxes was barely contained with server logs, phone records and data backup tapes added to the mix.

In the future – video, voice, social network relationships, reputation and attention are all going to be a part of the audit trail between providers, contractors, principals and clients.

The search problem just got harder. A lot harder.
