SIlver Buckshot

by Andrew McCaskey
If you realize that you are in a deep hole, stop digging.
That might well apply to the energy situation that we have overall – fossil based, much imported. Today’s WSJ has a good analysis of why, for the forseeable future there is no silver bullet that is going to pull things out of the fire. In fact, they speculate that the best we can hope for is silver buckshot – some small initiatives that offload the total energy demand by a few percentage points.
The political demand for bullets, not buckshot is strong – that’s why I am pretty skeptical on the claims from the Bloom box. Wednesday’s press conference is going to make for some good television. Celebrity endoresements.
Already some of the comments at places like TechDaily.com are starting to make sense. Questions like the impact of tax policy at the state level – which makes it work, at least for a while in CA – but not in Illinois or Georgia.

Qustions like how it’s tied to the price of natural gas, which when normalized out of the present low to a more realistic price you could expect over years – and it’s a lot less exciting.
Even celebrities make very poor investors. And yesterday’s hot company.. maybe today not so much.
Getting set up, most of us are going to find that the silver Buckshot contains a good deal of lead.
