CBS on uStream: Not a Recovery

The dalliance with Joost appears to have cost CBS dearly. As the only one of the four TV networks that is not participating in Hulu, CBS is making a run to partner with uStream.tv, providing some behind the scenes news coverage, some on site special events and things like Presidential speeches and the Katie Couric Evening News.
The tactical mistake was assuming that there was still a place for a proprietary viewer. They did every thing right, with timed release, beta testers, artificial scarcity, social networking to build a viewer base. The only problem was content and delivery quality. Other than than the system was in the Lame category, tending towards Fail.
It’s going to be painful. Even the most traditional of homes with any geek presence at all are going to blow right past this. Our approach, for example, is to buffer up the NBC evening news and after dinner take maybe 12 minutes out of the day to fast forward through to see if there is any additional footage from stories we may have read on CNN or Google News from the desk at work during the day.
I doubt that I am going to want to have to watch anything that was mentioned int he press release realtime. I’ll just catch the John Stewart summary on HuLu or the video clip from the CNN Website.{sharethis}
