Ethanol Keeps Rolling
One of the unfortunate mysteries of our political system is how a zombie product like ethanol keeps rolling on, in spite of scientific evidence that would kill almost any other technology or product. It’s truly the Rasputin of American politics, gaining court favor for mystical abilities, story telling and ability to create the illusion of short term pain removal. And close to impossible to kill.
The EPA is now considering increase of the allowable mix from 10% to 15%, and according to Business Week, there are – despite evidence on many fronts – good reasons to believe that the lobbyists may be successful.
The telling part of the article – the authors were unable to find a single mechanic who would agree to run 15 % ethanol in their personal vehicle. They’d be glad for you to do so, however – it’s going to be a land rush business replacing filler caps, tanks, fuel pumps and the rest of the system that ethanol laced fuels are going to destroy.
Sort of a mechanics-agribusiness stimulus program: all rolled into one. And a new career field for owners of Pontiac Dealerships.
