    Don’t Worry about Zune

    by Andrew McCaskey
    Worry About the iPod, Instead

The Zune HD has been unveiled and it’s debatable if the revamped unit can have much effect. I own a Zune, and as nice as the unit is, it has not been used much, even at the gym – the original purpose – for reasons I will explain. The new Zune is certainly up to date : “3.3-inch, 480 x 272 OLED capacitive touchscreen display, built-in HD Radio receiver, HD output,” and it makes use of multi-touch input.

The news should be the general class of portable music players is getting long in the tooth – as opposed to smart phones, including both the Adroid based systems now coming on line and specifically the iPhone and its genetic radio-less cousin the iPhone Touch.

Marrying an HD Radio (which I have mentioned before as HD Radio: What’s in Store ?) James Lewin at Podcasting News was a little more direct: They cited the three strikes you are out rule. Noting that HD Radio has been a solution in search of a problem for a long time. And, that extension of the XBox franchise in some way is the only hope that that Zune has.
