    Start of CMSExpo

    More Than Enough

More than enough bumpy spots to day setting up to cover the CMSExpo in Chicago – but that’s a good thing. That should mean that things are rung out and ready to go for the coverage and interviews on Thursday and Friday.

You have to congratulate anyone that signs up for the first interview of the series, especially on the day before the conference that is, by definition, a day to shake out the bugs. And so, we thank and congratulate Palantir, Inc of Chicago who went above and beyond the duty today in patience – in addition to hosting the Drupal versus Joomla versus WordPress Showdown presentation that kicked off the afternoon of intense training and discussion in preparation for the conference kick off tomorrow. Thanks also to Jentla, Jen McKibben of 4 web Inc, JoomlaCoaching.com and others who helped in the test of a shaky connection to uStream.

Bandwidth at it’s very best was problematic. We tried upstream on EVDO pending arrival of the promised LAN connection but no luck with the new uStream interface – suspecting that it was set to refuse to stream to the same combination of IP and MAC address that was originating. The hotel LAN arrived, but we could not get more that 1200 kbps down and 1100k up – not stellar perfomance compared with the normal high speed Comcast that I enjoy at home which is at least ten times faster. There are two T-1 to cover the entire needs of the hotel and 300 guests – so you can imagine the throttling and QOS issues that occur before it even leaves the building and the ISP gets hold of it.

Thanks to Jeff Powers of the Geekazine podcast spent most of the day in on the fly / on the air troubleshooting and with the assurance of the hotel IT people, we are looking forward to a day when we are not unceremoniously dumped by the ISP withint two minutes of sign on to uStream. Never fear, we do have local videotape copies of the interviews, and we will have them posted eventually – but that is an encode task that we just can’t undertake on site.

Join us tomorrow at 8:00AM Central for Day 1 of the official learning conference.
