Good Enough for Most

NetBooks Are the First Step
The PC World blog imagines a report from the future looking back to the Great Recession of ’09, and notes that is the first time that the idea of “Good Enough” computing infiltrated the conciousness. And that spelled the beginning of the end for the Mighty Microsoft. The camel’s nose in the tent of Open Source had begun years before. But Good Enough computing became possible because even the cheapest chips have all the power most people need nowadays. With applications moving into the cloud, the browser became the most important application. And with good connectivity and the keyboard and screen, even the most modest machine was good enough.
All because Good Enough, and cheap is all the computer you need.
Now smartphones, that’s a different story. You wont pay for power, but you will pay for mobility, connectivity, and media choice .
