Grand Central Reborn

The new implementation of GRand Central, now called Google voice is going to have some substantial impact of scores of companies. Tom Peters notably said, this is not a recession, it is a reset. If you happen to be a company that sells voice mail transcription or conferencing calling services – I am afraid your reset has arrived.
The most subtle effects will be training of the Google Voice system, conducted by you, the user.
The video today is a detail of the voicemail transcription service, that takes any voicemail that comes into your system and converts it to text – to be sent as an email or forwarded via SMS. You can anticipate that it won’t be 100% accurate. I’ll bet that Google’s algorithm includes observing what corrections you happen to make before you do some quick corrections and send it along to someone else in your address book.
Not only are you an unwilling stockholder in various banks, automobile and insurance companies – you are now an un-official part time Google employee, helping refine their speech to text algorithm, clarifying context, and removing problems with background noise, regionalisms, and accents. I guess I should say worker or volunteer. Employees get paid.
