Bad Guys and Recession

Interesting to note that the recession has already affected the bad guys who bring us the plague of malware and scams. It seems that there are two emerging trends in the spam and botmaster world:
Hit them while their Defenses are Down – in the case of investment banks and mortage companies, whose IT security folks are presumably as worried as the rest of us and distracted from multiple attack vectors.
Find a New Business Model- time to branch out from the tried and true weight loss and herbal enhancements. Find a classier line of work, perhaps along the lines of some multi-level marketing or work at home through the internet scheme.
Smart scammers are already in the library looking for ideas in the back pages of Popular Mechanics from the 1930′s : Work at Home Stuffing Envelopes. Selling Subscriptions Door-to-Door. Amazing X-Ray glasses. Now, all that is required is to make them digital, recast the appeal to a new generation, and go back to work finding those who are willing to part with what little cash remains. As long as there is a combination of desperation and greed, there is going to be a ready market.
Some things never go out of style.
