    Shorter Podcasts and National Mood

It’s not that there isn’t tech news: It is just swamped by the flood of political and business news washing over us all. And my ability to concentrate continues to diminish. And that is one reason for the shorter podcasts the past two weeks or so.

One of the main editorial filters that I have practiced for years (other than a few remarks here and there) is that “Ford versus Chevy” arguments offer little in the way of value. That’s why I keep them out of the podcast. Ok, I have to admit that I got carried away with the rest of the crowd in the anti-Vista bias but in the balance, I figure that the election is being so well covered that there is not much value add in promotion of my personal views.

The problem is that we are all caught up in this flood with personal and professional risks uppermost in our minds that it’s getting harder and harder to keep that filter in place. And I think that I am seeing the flow of information – other than economic news and political news – steadily decline as businesses and individuals grapple with the personal impact on careers and families.

All I know is that I just realized this a day or two ago: If the situation stabilized tomorrow – it would take my family about 12 years to get back to where we were a month ago.

And when AIG went back for another $35Billion that was just about the last straw.
