    No Wonder We’re Nervous

Often a day’s news stories link together in unexpected ways.

It’s hard to not remind ourselves that the titanic battle between HD-DVD and Blu-Ray was only decided in January of this year. That makes the Samsung Consumer Electronics’ executive comments that Blu-Ray will be “gone in five years” even more startling.

But it is a reminder that product and business model windows are narrowing even more, and the multi-billion dollar bets made on HD disk distribution are going to have even less time to provide a return than their respective companies imagined when the contest began.

The move to the next level that began with Cloud Apps of various kinds, now expressed in the Chrome browser begins to cap the desktop app and even the desktop OS age.

Parallel stories about Twitter keep running almost every day, along with today’s item about CNN’s embrace of Twitter and iReport.

The one I really like is the one about the dinosaurs actually being bitten to death by small insects.
