    All Google

    by Andrew McCaskey
Today’s news is all Google. It’s not that Google is making it’s move. It’s that Google is moving on so many fronts at the same time.

On the surface, it’s all good. If Google Chrome is able to further drive compliance and keep the IE drifting of “embrace and extend” at bay, that will be a good thing. If Google Video can provide internal video for corporate clients ( maybe giving up a little bit since they will have to be using Google Apps for other portions of the enterprise.. If Google’s recon satellite can keep things separate and discrete.

That’s a LOT to ask of any company, even Google. Especially when their market cap depends upon advancing not only knowledge, but an advertising based revenue model.

The privacy mode for Chrome offers the interesting note that it is private from the standpoint of the local machine. Chrome has a mode that apparently enables “anonomized” tracking information to be sent back to Google, again for the best of advertising and marketing reasons.

The only problem might be the questions that arise when those records get supenoed. Or when those surveillance photos at 41cm resolution get published in a civil case – wrong car at the wrong house at the wrong time. Or when the wrong sort of videos get put up in a corporate training session.

Then we will see how good it all is.
