New Media Expo on the Ropes

The podcasting world had a bit of a shock today with the publication of a blog post from Tim Bourquin, Founder of the New Media Expo, where he seriously questioned the viability of the Trade Show industry in the changing economy.
The present economy is hard on everyone. Show attendance was down due to the move to Las Vegas, and as I mentioned in an earlier post the prices for cab transport, food, drinks and everything were markedly increased, just since CES in January 2008. I am gathering the cash for CES 2009 – as I expect it will be rugged.
I am not attending the Gnomedex conference this year. I started in 2002, and have not missed a single year until this one. Conference fatigue, back to back with NME and general expense of flight, transport, hotel and event. I’m going to miss the opportunity,but I had to choose – and I chose New Media Expo.
Some of those commenting on TIm’s post directly noted that there were cities in the Midwest that would almost kill for the type of event like the New Media Expo.
