      Podcamp Boston Report

      by Andrew McCaskey

Here’s the session report on some of my favorites, in just a few words: I’d provide links but since my luggage is delayed and still sitting in Washington Dulles airport (along with all the business cards I collected) I don’t have the names and links for all presenters.

SEO101 – An excellent module that set up just enough information to show how much of a business and art this is and how difficult it is for a podcaster to position a site and show for good organic search. Big take away is that all that Google is looking for is building a good user experience and that while black-hat SEO will work for a short period of time, the risk of paid link-farms and various scams on the reputation system. Honest content, internal links to spread reputation to relevant content, and fresh content goes a long way, over time to building organic search. Definately need to keep up with the science and practice of SEO.

John Wall of TheMShow offfered a strong presentation on integrating podcasting and new media into the communications strategy in a corporate environment. Big take away here ? Stop chasing the “Viral Siren” of the next YouTube novelty to build your brand, and concentrate instead on using new media to streamline your funnel, take work out of your process and educate / filter suspects into qualified prospects.

Audio Secrets – There is a constant struggle in the podcasting world to move beyond the gamer mic / Audacity level without getting sucked into the professional audio / music production study world of super expensive equipment and overkill. This session by David Fisher hit the target. Precisely.

Seesmic was the single most exciting presentation. As I felt in my first exposure to the concept of podcasting in September 2004 “There’s something happening here .. what it is ain’t exactly clear”.

I am going to be doing a lot more with Seesmic in the future. And hope that you will be, too.
