Combining News Items
by Andrew McCaskey
Observing the news flash by day after day, it’s a bit un-nerving when they seem to converge into a coherent and larger story.
That’s the feeling that I had today, reading the item on the addition of Artificial Intelligence to the CCTV surveillance cameras in the UK. For now, at least nominally, it is only a research project.
The issue is combining that technology with the Petabyte Age storage story featured in Wired and mentioned yesterday – and the discussion on the surveillance and security systems that have been put in place in China.
Ostensibly, the systems designed and installed by US contractors in China are a part of the anti-terrorism apparatus for the Olympics. One has to question the real intent, and mix the three elements together.
Omniscient observation, both visual and audio. Transactional analysis of financial flows. The convenience of “EasyPass” for the Indiana Toll Road and Chicagoland toll roads – that also allow the correlation of vehicle, time and place.
I am paying a lot more attention to these issues, and hope that you are also.
