      Death, Taxes, and Vista

      by Andrew McCaskey
ZDNet’s summary is this: There is Vista in your future, and there’s not much you can do about it.

The petition to extend XP, and the various schemes to buy XP and then downgrade or keep XP on nettop underpowered machines and UMPC’s are still the sideshow.

The main event will be Vista, in some form for the next four years or so until Windows 7 arrives. ZDNet also pointed out that the switchers (to OSX) have already switched – and Linux on the desktop contiues to gain more credibility.

On the other hand, I’ve just been looking at the advance promo for the new Apple online service, MobileMe. For day to day operations and common applications, the browser based / connected to the cloud approach may be all we need.
