VoIP Solutions
by Andrew McCaskey
You have to wonder how many VoIP solutions there are. And, I just had to try one more – the MagicJack USB system. Their special 30 day trial lasts until the end of March, and I thought that I would give them a try.
Voice connectivity is one of the least of the worries here – a choice between the Ooma outbound box, a Vonage line, SkypeOut, Jajah, Gizmo and rollover minutes on AT&T.
Voice connectivity that works well might be a mroe elusive target – but I am certainly interested in having as many resources available as possible, especially those that are compatible with standard telephone hardware that might be useful on a remote office trip that is coming up in a few weeks. As much fun as Skype on the speakerphone might be – it would be really nice to have an outbound line that I could use in a different mode.
I recognize that early adopters are going to be working these sorts of schemes – but at some moment, the ability of telcos to continue to charge anything for long distance is going to disappear.
That’s why the article on buying railroad stock is so interesting. There’s some long distance hauling that is hard to outsource. And, it’s green, besides.
