iPhone Additions – First Reaction

With a grand total of maybe twenty minutes experimenting with the new firmware that arrived overnight for the iPhone, I have to say that I like what I see.
Two things stand out – the use of the location service with maps as a backup for a dedicated GPS unit while on foot, and the flexibility of the new menu system on the iPhone that lets you pull out a section of a web page, make an icon of it, and move it to the front “page” of the iPhone.
This makes it easy to set up my Nozbe account in its own icon, and then move it directly to the front of the phone – for quick reference and no drill down through log in screens. It looks like it will provide a number of such screens that I can flip through, customizing to my heart’s content among various sites that I either administer or frequent.
The enhanced map location will be a lot more discrete to consult than the separate GPS unit – alhtough the dedicated unit is obviously much more desirable for full time installation in the car. I’ll give a more detailed report the next trip into Chicago or Indianapolis.
