Geek News Central TPN Holiday Telethon

The oldest continuing annual telethon in the United States on the same channel is Green Bay, Wisconsin WBAY-TV’s local Cerebral Palsy telethon that began broadcasting 22 hours on the first weekend of March 1954.
As of 2006, they have celebrated their 52nd year of presenting the telethon, which helps provide financial support for equipment for Cerebral Palsy, Inc.’
The first Tech Podcast Holiday Telethon, run for the benefit of the One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) is the brainchild project of TPN founder Todd Cochrane, of Geek News Central.
The event will begin Friday December 21 at
0600 HST, 0800 PST, 1100 EST and run for 24 hours. It will be carried live on uStream.tv
Every half hour for 24 hours there will be a guest segment from TPN, Rawvoice or the podcasting community on the general topic of new media, podcasting, Technology, Science, Life, Family .
The purpose of the telethon is to raise money for OLPC donations and there’s a chance to grab an easy $25 – just be the first person to catch Todd Cochrane dropping off to sleep during the 24 hour live show, by watching on the ustream.tv video feed.
It’s a fitting way to support a good cause for the Holiday season.
