The Tip of the Iceberg

If Quicken is successful in making the leap to the iPhone, it’s going to be the first of a flood of services that will begin to release as the iPhone platform continues on its global march.
WSJ reported to day that Apple is now in talks with two Japanese wireless service providers – DoCoMo and Softbank. One or both would provide yet another outlet for the iPhone, and as other Software as Service applications came on line, the standardization of the UI and smooth user experience will fall in line.
Over the age of 40, and the idea that you would entrust banking and financial information to a wireless link becomes more than a little suspect. My adult children assure me this is not nearly as much of a problem if you are younger.
Banks should welcome the opportunity, as the greatest lock-in of all is the convenience factor of electronic payment – and once the airlines make an effort to simplify the byzantine fare and schedule data for the portable device, that’s a natural application as well.
