What the Writer’s Strike Can Mean

The writers’ strike continues, and it’s interesting to note that the TV industry – or more properly the content delivery industry is not above covering some bets on the delivery channel in the meantime. While the over the air and through the cable portions of the business are in a bit of strike induced termoil, there is no problem keeping the brand in motion with some strategically leaked content that just happens to show up in torrent form.
Jackass 2.5 ( from the same team that has aimed low and hit successfully with Jackass-The Movie ) has decided to release to YouTube, and carpet bomb all sorts of internet channels with clips and segments as a means of increasing the awareness for the paid DVD version of their entertainment product.
Meantime, as was cited on NPR today, the makeup artists, grips, and others in television are being held to a protracted match between the writers and producers.
How much will be left when they all get back online will be debatable. The content folks will win – you have to have the writers. But how much in the middle will be weakened ?
