At the Beginning – Part 2

I remember that in mid October, 2004 – Doc Searls published an essay with a title along the lines of “Present Just After the Big Bang” in his Suitwatch Newsletter.

He was, of course, talking about the immediate reaction of the blogging community to podcasting – its relationship with radio, and a prediction that you would, one day replace your iPod with a Linux based smartphone.

It looks like we are present at the beginnings of a similar epoch, with the announcement of Google AdSense extending into the video space,

The story in ARS TECHNICA termed it the “Google Television Network” – with millions of us micro-media outlets chomping at the bit to add just a little more juice to the Google machine – providing additional venues that are free from DVR time shifting, and a more targeted form of advertising than almost any invented.

We are consuming our content in ever shorted increments – and as the commercial TV ad loading approaches 10 or 12 minutes of the half hour – the 17 minute format for web delivered content is on parity.

The YouTube limit of roughly ten minutes is not arbitrary – it is trainig us to consume media in smaller time segments.

Just like Little Red Riding Hood..
