Music Download Case
It looks like it has taken three or four years for the music industry to score a major victory in the courts on a music download / piracy trial.
My comment is this – they may have won the case (and I feel sure their legal bills will be considerably more than the $222,000 award) but they have lost the battle. – In fact. probably lost the battle about five years ago.
This sort of drama is going to keep business school students in 2020 and beyond well entertained – not from a music standpoint – but as an amusing case study and object lesson.
There must be some pride to be had realizing that your name will be recorded in history books for years to come.
It’s a shame that you will be used as an example of how backward facing policy can kill an industry.
As I understand it, though, while the recording industry is doing poorly, the music business is robust and healthy.
Maybe that is why the live bluegrass venue in our community has a packed house every weekend during the season, and the artists seem to vacuum up $40 worth of (self published) CD’s and T-shirts from me each time we go.
