Facebook’s Lead
It is pretty difficult for me to grasp the significance of the Facebook ecosystem at a visceral level. That probably says as much about generational differences as it does technology.
What I do have to respect is the fact that Facebook is a framework that has attracted tremendous interest and the skills of thousands of developers who have invested time and effort into plugins for the platform.
My only concern is that Facebook may be going through the same honeymoon that Second Life experienced twelve or eighteen months ago.
Our culture is famous for the fifteen minutes of fame and I do not have to go back too far in time to see all sorts of fawning attention to Second Life by mainstream corporate folks. That energy is now being channeled into Facebook admiration.
How is that going to survive the next year of politics and immediately after that the yet to be realized impact of the conversion to digital television in 2009 ?
There is enough instability in the video content arena now that the flip of the switch may not occur without some arcs and sparks around the edges.
Let’s just say that I am enjoying the SDR YouTube Group on Apple TV and if Big Bang Theory and the Office were just a bit more affordable.. this could get really interesting.
