      RF Congestion

I have to wonder what sort of RF environment you have in your home ?

Each time I fire up the WiFi – even a in a middle of the market suburb neighborhood in a small town – a half dozen 2.4 Ghz WiFi hot spots show up. Not more than a year ago, I switched the portable phones in the house to 5Ghz, to try and reduce some of the interference.

Still, there are more than a few mysterious disconnects, times when the network slows to a crawl but a quick re-boot or cycle of radio or wireless is just enough to clear the blockage.

The YouTube selection for today and the item on RF interference points to a possible source of some of that.

But you know what ? I think it’s great. And I think it’s a small price to pay where clever designers have been able to produce such a variety of devices with such utility – many of them under $50. And we need to be reminded that not much more than 35 years ago, a simple thing like attaching a Bell approved 103 modem was suspect.

If de-regulation had not occurred, we would just now be moving into the beginnings of the wireless age.
