Social Engineering Again
The Storm Twist exploit relies heavily upon a social engineering approach, this time with YouTube. It’s a friendly email “Your Face is All Over the Internet” – when clicked upon adds your machine to the botnet roster.
This one will not be spreading quite as fast as the earlier “e-greeting” card campaign. While a YouTube based approach might garner the click through attentions of a younger demographic (relying upon curiosity and popular notoriety), it’s hard to beat the older demographic of trust and lack of internet savvy that the e-greeting card set in motion.
Now, all they will have to do is figure out how to social engineer into the patriotic / sentimental chain letter. That’s only one step away from the male enhancement mass emailing… which is..
Recursive social engineering.
Maybe I need to find a patent troll. Quickly !
