ASUS shifts into High Gear
The item on the $199 laptop – linux based, Flash memory 4GB, built in WiFi – that is taking the center stage in Taiwan’s most recent computer show. (It is also the video for the day).
At the price point, it might be a real salvation to the local tech support that I end up providing for family machines. I have various machines , XP and Win98 belonging to family members – many of whom are elderly – and the continued level of spyware, virus scan and general aggravation is probably shared by some listeners as well. A well formed laptop – just fine for looking at web sites and replying to email, without spyware worries.. might be just the ticket.
I just hope that the $200 laptop does not get messed up and mixed up with the politics of the XO / OLPC $100 laptop.

I have been an Audible subscriber for years, consuming scores of programs on lengthy commutes, on the treadmill, on flights or just walking the dog.
