N800 Adds Skype
The iPhone and all the publicity is raising the bar on all sorts of portable devices. Nokia is certainly not taking a beating without a few good shots of their own.
As many listeners know, I was one of the early purchasers of the Nokia N800 internet Tablet at CES in January – and, with the possible exception of the address book function – have enjoyed using the device, particularly when traveling.
From the start, I had installed the Gizmo Project / SIP phone network on the N800. The problem was, most of my buddies were on Skype.
Gizmo was great for the “Skype Out” functionality to the Public Switched Telephone Network -
but Skype is still the winner, hands down, as far as internet calling is concerned.
One new OS download to the N800, and we are back in business.
