The analysis of a Free Treo versus the iPhone continues the thread that I have been pulling on for several weeks – trying to understand if there is any business reason for the iPhone or the alternatives of Blackberry, HTC, Q-Phone, Nokia or others.
My conclusion is that they are ALL expensive and your choices, such as they are will be as much carrier based as hardware based.
It’s a part of the shift that most of us have – with connectivity being the second or third largest budget item each month other than food, depending upon the transport needs that you might have as a part of your employment.
My thoughts return to Merlin Mann’s comments – unless you are a drug dealer or a commodities trader how much do you really “need” to be in constant connection ? Maybe being plugged in via Wifi twice day in your normal movement is not only cheaper but will enable more focus on your part.
My thoughts are coming back full circle to the use of the N800 internet tablet, with Skype/Gizmo application software.
