      Drobo Robot

Today’s video and link to Engadget for the Drobo storage robot is resonating like crazy for me.

What puts this into perspective is the loss of a disk drive on my future son-in-law’s laptop three weeks before the wedding, with all of the scanned in photos for the reception dinner video show now being hooked up for re-scan.

All that it does it point up that I am living in a very dangerous mode – with no realistic backup strategy or practice – just Ghost running on one machine for production work, and some material to the dot mac account.

Family photos, client data are mostly in two places, but it does not take long to find a single point of failure.

The base unit is $500 – but if you have to recover data (which the kids decided not to do) you can run through that sort of money quickly.

You might want to give this unit a closer look.
