Joost and Apple-TV ?
As we observed during the latest TPN Roundtable, there is something about the Apple TV and Joost universe that is not yet fallen into place.
Tonight’s article about the former Cisco exec now taking the reins at Joost (with it’s Skype DNA roots) clicks one more piece of the puzzle into place. Just as there are now Skype branded phones (no computer required), the article pointed to the possibilty that Joost – in addition to being OS agnostic (OSX, Linux or Windows) it might well be hardware agnostic.
That opens the door to a Joost module for advertising supported content on AppleTV, and premium content through iTunes Music Store.
What’s missing here ? First, still some thing suspicious about the crippling of the AppleTV Wifi capability to pulling content from the home network only, off of existing PC or WIndows media ( I can’t remember if Bonjour can detect or pull from Linux boxes, maybe through Samba).
It would be a coup – offering the best of premium content plus the best/worst of lowest common denominator shovelware video:advertiser supported via Joost, and (unfortunately) view produced on YouTube.
Present company and SDR You Tube Group content excluded, of course…
Apologies for the defective feed this morning – it looked ok visually but the combination of a question mark and right bracket sent the headlines off into PHP land.
