Hackng DNS
The OpenDNS system is probably one of the best investments in time versus improvement of the day to day internet use that you can make.
The price is right, and if you can take the time to follow instructions in the link above, you will find a great deal of improvement over the default DNS services that are provided by at least two ISP’s – Verizon and Comcast, in my personal experience.
It still begs the question, though – why our present systems require that you have to get under the hood to make this sort of adjustment. I think that that old double feature hit – ignorance and pride play a large role.
The Linux adoption article in the lead this evening points out that most users are satisfied most of the time – and are not letting this sort of thing get in the way of their enjoyment of surfing the net, catching email updates and downloading the occasional spyware selection.
Much like the North American mobile phone system – people find it hard to believe that there might be something or some place with a better user experience.
As long as there are tweaks, there will be tweakers. And as long as some will not accept the walled garden, there is a way out. Thank goodness for that.
