Good Video – Why Is It Blocked for Embed ?
You Tube Video – Missing Today
The YouTube video for today is showing up missing, because the author has requested that the video be disabled for embed.
I am not sure why this was done. It is a good piece of video, and you will find the trip worthwhile if you have interest in consumer wireless devices, convergence (at the device level) and want to project a bit on the politics that probably lurk in the background somewhere.
If YouTube was anxious for the ad revenue and wanted to force viewers to the site and expose them to ads along the right margin, that would make sense.
Likewise, if the creator feared getting swamped and clobbered on bandwidth, that would be a legit reason as well.
But, disabling the embed seems to me to be a bit of a futile exercise. The content could be stripped and re-recorded (although in sections, since the total video is more than the ten minute limit for non-director YouTube accounts.
Plus, I think the author has an interesting premise: If this portable device / handset really does replace 13 other items (some not too well, apparently), then I would think he would want to have his investigation public.
There’s something here that I am not getting – but I hope that you will be able to follow the link to the SlashdotReview YouTube Group and enjoy. It is worth the trip.
