      Microsoft in a Box

It’s hard to believe a company as large as Microsoft, part of our lives for 30 years could become – somehow – irrelevant.

That’s the conclusion, however of the lead article today, placing MS in the category of no longer being the nemesis of every start-up company, and more importantly, losing market share among the demographic that is most profitable and influential.

The next time you are wandering the aisles at Walmart, Sam’s or Costco – take a look at the PC business and try to figure out where the money is being made. You will find it the next aisle over, where iPod brand music players command a $70 premium over similar flash based mp3 players from Samsung and other manufacturers.

You will not find it along the blow-out printer aisles, where you can buy a new Lexmark printer complete with cartridges for the $40 that you had in your pocket intending to replace the HP printer cartridges.

It sure is not on the computer systems themselves.

You might look at the stacks of “protection” in the anti-virus, anti-spam, anti-spyware aisles.
I think that is where there is still some money to be found.
