Update on the Vista Folder Sharing Issue from the TPN Roundtable
Jeff Erwin and the team from Network Magic (Pure Networks) have forwarded their white paper on Sharing Files and Printers in Vista. You might recall that Jeff caused a bit of a stir on the most recent TechPodcast Roundtable program, because his initial investigations in the sharing of folders in a mixed environment – XP and Vista – seemed to indicate that it was possible to accidentally share all folders, not just one – and that a security violation in the making was shipped in most every box or laptop heading out of Dell, HP, Gateway or Walmart. After several weeks of work, they’ve provided TPN with a white paper on e xactly what they’ve found – and you will find it instructive as well as a bit frightening. You can download the material from our website – and get an idea of the fun that you are going to be having in the not to distant future, when you get tapped by your family or friends to “help out a bit” and get their new laptop or computer working with their old printer.
