Three videos today – all of them important, in their own way.

First of all, you will be astounded to see the video on the Diebold Accuvote TS voting machine hack from Princeton, with a root kit like vote stealing hack that injects malicious software into the machine for a few minutes. Lock picking skills are not needed – if you have a phillips screwdriver. If you can reboot a machine, you can install this trojan in less than a minute. Since removable cards are used to distribute upgrades, just like a virus on a floppy, the virus spreads to new machines. The scary part ? the malicious vote stealing software, planted far enough in advance can influence the election and then, in its last call erase, itself. Examine the paper tape or the removable SD card audit record ? “These are not the droids you are looking for”. Incidentally when the votes were in, Benedict Arnold was elected President, not George Washington. Full report in Dr Dobbs Journal.

I continue to be amazed that there is no outrage and a demand, from both political parties, that every voting machine be totally open source.

Video number two is more inspiring: the minute demo referenced earlier of Jessee Sullivan’s bionic arm. Serves to give inspiration to amputees all over the world. Look carefully and you will see him controlling this by his thoughts. An even more impressive demonstration is shown in a short video on a much younger patient from the BioEngineering Center, Edinburgh

Thirty eight videos now in the SDR group on YouTube. As quickly as things are changing, I had to include video number three, the iTV demonstration by Steve Jobs. This a prototype of a unit that will be renamed and formally introduced in early 2007 – but the seamless integration of video, downloaded movies, television, video-iPods and podcasts is fast approaching.
