Interesting to note the one item regarding RF signals. One man’s trash is another man’s treasure. Or, relating to the news item on Faraday cages, desirable effects can get confused with undesired outcomes, if for example your house happens to have aluminum siding. As it turns out, we are already acutely aware of the effectiveness of metal cages. Some listeners may share some of the frustrations of trying to get a decent cellphone connection indoors, wifi coverage on the patio, or roaming about the 1/4 acre estate with 2.4Ghz and 5.8Ghz cordless phones. One interesting phenomena is the XM satellite antenna, which works at one place in the rec room – as best we can figure shooting through the an upper bedroom floor and through a strategically placed window for the required view of the southern sky.

Getting ready for another series of mobile productions this week, as I head out to the Bay Area for some day job related meetings. So, you’ve been warned to expect some irregular timing and gravelly voice work, and the general levels of aggravation that accompany mobile operation. At least this time some standard mics – not a test run with one fresh out of the box. Not planning any changes, additions or modifications in the server department this week either.

Gearhead and mechanical effects took over the videos on the SDR Group on YouTube over the weekend. One, is a highly rated animation of what’s under the hood, a three minute animation that shows the assembly of a modern four cylinder engine in slow-mo and gives you some appreciation of why that new timing belt is going to cost you $700 to install. The other from Raganathur, who sent along a short illustration of his MacBook Pro with the “Smack alongside the head” modification - that toggles between tasks or desktops.

If you find some interesting tech content onYouTube that complements the same type of news content that we cover each day – I hope that you will send along the URL to slashdotreview{at} gmail.com.
