Inkscape and Music:Sharing or Stealing
by Andrew McCaskey
Slashdot Review Podcast
Lots of greetings and thanks to pass along today.
First of all Dwight Illk from the Slashdot Review Technical Team and his family are on a road trip on a college visit and are currently drying out near Memphis after a day of driving through storms and tornado infested parts of Illinois. He has a brand new Sprint PocketPC (PCS 700) phone and is using it (via Bluetooth) to connect to the net with high speed EvDO access. At the same time it is being the GPS showing us the way to Memphis. It is connected, via Bluetooth also, to the GPS receiver. I might even be able to place a phone call on it, too!
Dwight has good news on the Juice podcatcher front - thanks to the dedication of listeners including Tom Westheimer, and log data from Ragnar Daneskjold and Erica in Southern California. We will have full details up in the FAQ page in a few days.
Two very interesting videos on the Slashdotreview group at YouTube. The first is a specialized video from beatgroover in Australia. It’s entitled ” Make a shiny highlight item in Inkscape ” . It is an interesting tutorial, a simple project and just the sort of video to introduce me to a new application. I did not know about Inkscape – which is an open source project with Linux,Mac and Windows versions. A few minutes on the Ubuntu box for the download, and I was just about as dangerous on the app as most. Inkscape is an Open Source vector graphics editor, with capabilities similar to Illustrator, Freehand, CorelDraw, or Xara X using the W3C standard Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) file format.
The second video added today from a listener recommendation is a documentary on the music industry: Sharing or Stealing. Depends on your perspective – and instead of asking one of the well known celebrities, Tyson Sadler assembled some young people who work in the music business and some who do not. Whatevery your thoughts when posing the question of who wins, who loses – and will give you something to think about.
One other video that I had to throw into the group album myself was a quick video of a Verizon GPS platform on a Motorola V325 phone. In light of the remarks last night – another good example of an essential tool when you don’t want to stop for directions.
