Real Trouble : No Charge Demo
by Andrew McCaskey

And what a night it was. I got a message from a listener just as I was about to post last night – that put me onto the problems that had been dogging SDR for the past few days. Finally traced the problem to a little “design re-use” cut and paste that inadvertently was putting two enclosures into the stream and otherwise mangling the feed for most of a week. If I were a bit superstitious about using the words “troubleshoot” a day or two ago I had good reason to do so. What kept me going in circles was the fact that in WordPress I could correct the error, see it change, then when I would re-save that day’s post and go back, the double enclosure error would be back again. From reports, some podcatchers were working just fine, others were not playing the game, and some just kept downloading the episode from June 19th, kind of like a podcast edition of “Groundhog Day” . By half past midnight, I had it sorted out.

If you’ve been “hearing double” for the past few days, thanks for your patience.

Two other items of note:

First, for the next several days, you are going to be hearing a special request:

We have a new survey on our website which you can find by clicking on the banner at Slashdotreview.com. This survey is to help us gather information on your opinions on podcast advertisements. Please answer the questions honestly as it will help us provide the best podcast possible.

Second, for the rest of the week, Mobile productions are in the plans: traveling tomorrow to Seattle, and then from Thursday onwards, we will have productions from Gnomedex Six, along with several other members of the TechPodcast Network. I was going to warn you that posting times might be irregular, but after some of the adventures earlier this week, that might be an improvement !

Recent Items Mentioned:
Inbox Zero: One of the guideposts along the way will be some articles from the excellent site for personal productivity at 43 Folders , specifically an article entitled “My email diet” in the Inbox Zero – Day 1series.
From the 43Folders Inbox Zero process, I’m learning that these tools are no substitute for ruthless triage of escalating questions:
1. What does this message mean to me and why do I care ?
2. What action, if any, does this message require of me ?
3. What’s the most elegant way to close out this message and the nested action it contains ?

These questions were most valuable getting from 400 to 100 items. After that, the default

Outlook folder “Unread Items” kept the new stuff in one place – just reading headers and sender lines for easy zapping
The free 40 page downloadable e-Book from Rajesh Setty, a fellow Gnomedexer.. “Personal Branding for Technology Professionals”, It’s some heavy reality for anyone in the technology arena – especially the IT field or pure technologists.
